This short asymmetric bolero is designed to balance elegance and structure, with clean, modern lines that highlight the asymmetric front and the volume of the sleeves. Choosing the right fabric will define the final look — from fluid and refined to architectural and jacket-like.

Woven fabrics 

Select woven fabrics according to the desired effect. The bolero works best with fabrics that offer either a beautiful drape or enough body to hold its shape, without excessive stiffness.

*Fluid & Elegant
Ideal for a soft, flowing silhouette with movement and a refined finish.

• Silk (dupioni, habotai, silk satin)
• Viscose / rayon
• Tencel / Lyocell
• Cupro (Bemberg)
• Lightweight satin or crepe (polyester or viscose)

These fabrics emphasize the asymmetric front and the soft volume of the sleeves.

*Structured & Jacket-Like
Perfect for a more architectural bolero with defined lines and shape retention.

• Wool blends (wool/viscose, wool/polyester, wool/soie)
• Fine wool twill
• Light flannel
• Wool crepe
• Lightweight wool gabardine

*Casual / Contemporary
Suitable for a modern or daytime version.

• Linen or linen-viscose blends
• Cotton sateen
• Cotton poplin
• Light denim or chambray
• Twill (cotton or Tencel blend)

Recommended fabric weight

• Approx. 180–280 g/m² (5–8 oz)
• Choose lighter weights for fluid versions and medium weights for structured looks

Fabrics to avoid

• Very thick or stiff fabrics (heavy coating wool, upholstery fabrics)
• Bulky knit fabrics
• Highly stretchy fabrics, unless properly stabilized

These fabrics may add unwanted bulk or distort the clean lines of the design.

Interfacing

Use a lightweight woven fusible interfacing to support the neckline and front edges while maintaining flexibility.

• Fluid fabrics: very lightweight woven fusible or silk organza
• Wool and wool blends: light to medium woven fusible (avoid stiff interfacings)
• Cotton and linen: lightweight woven fusible

Avoid heavy or non-woven interfacings.
Always test the interfacing on a fabric scrap before fusing.

Lining

• The bolero can be sewn without lining, especially with fluid fabrics
• For wool blends, you may leave it unlined for a modern look or add a light lining (viscose or cupro) for comfort and structure

Sewing your own garment means you are the creator of your piece — feel free to experiment with fabrics not mentioned here. Exploring different materials can lead to beautiful and unique results.
This list is provided as a guideline — not all suitable fabrics are listed.

We indicate, as a reference, the necessary quantity for a fabric 150CM wide /59” with a directional print/nap for a size XXXL:
FABRIC: 1.50 meters / 59 inches
LINING: 1.15 meters / 45 inches

The amount of fabric needed for your pattern depends on the pattern size, the width and design of the fabric you plan to use.
