How to Sew a Welt pocket

How to Sew a Welt pocket

Use tailors chalk or baste.

A.2 – Apply interfacing to this area on the wrong side of the fabric.

B.1 – Take the welt and interfacing, and apply using heat before folding in half lengthways, wrong sides together.

B.2 – Sew the two shorter ends together with 1.5cm seam allowance.

B.3 – With chalk, mark the seam allowance of the welt

C.1 – Take the welt that you prepared earlier, and place its right side on the right side of your garment the seam allowance line of the welt in line with the bottom line of the location.

C.2 – Sew it and stop just at the corner of the pocket location. Don’t forget to backstitch at the beginning and at the end of the sewing.

C.3 – With chalk mark the seam allowance of the back pocket

C.4 – Take the right side back pocket, and place on the right side of your garment the seam allowance line of the pocket in line with the upper line of the location.

C.5 – Sew it and stop just at the corner of the pocket location
Don’t forget to backstitch at the beginning and the end of the sewing.

D.1 – Now, turn the fabric so that the right side is facing you and push the back pocket piece through the new hole you have created.
And then push the welt pocket piece upwards towards the top of the garment.

D.2 – Iron the triangle edge on each side

E.1 – Take the front pocket, and align the right side the pocket with the the edge ot the welt.
Sew on the line sewed before to attach the pocket.

E.2 – Now place the pocket correctly.

E.3 – On the wrong side, sew along the triangle edge first of all to secure the welt and pocket bag pieces in position.

E.4 – Then, line up the two pocket bag pieces front sides together and pin to secure. Sew all around. You can trim excel fabric. Finish the edges as you prefer.
