Torretto Tessuti logo – premium Italian fabric shop online

If you’ve ever searched for Italian fabric online, you know the problem: plenty of shops claim “Italian quality,” but very few actually deliver it. From the silk looms of Como to the artisan mills of Tuscany, real Italian textiles are something special — and after sewing more than a dozen garments with fabrics from Torretto Tessuti, I can honestly say this shop is one of the few that does. In this updated review, I’ll show you what they sell, what it’s like to sew with their fabrics, and 13 of my own designs made with them.

Where to Buy Italian Fabrics Online?

Unless you can fly to Milan and browse the mills yourself, buying Italian fabric usually means buying online — and that means trusting photos and descriptions. What sets Torretto Tessuti apart from the big generic fabric marketplaces is curation: instead of thousands of fabrics of wildly varying quality, you get a hand-picked selection sourced directly from Italian mills, with honest descriptions of composition, weight, and drape. They ship from the south of France (just outside Nice), which keeps delivery fast and affordable for European sewists — including here in Spain.

Italian Deadstock Fabric: Sustainable and One-of-a-Kind

🌿 Why deadstock matters

Many of Torretto Tessuti’s textiles are Italian deadstock — luxury fabrics from prestigious mills that would otherwise go unused. For you as a sewist, that means two things: your garment is truly one-of-a-kind (when a deadstock fabric sells out, it’s gone for good), and you’re supporting a more circular, conscious approach to fashion. My tip: if you fall in love with a deadstock fabric, don’t wait — buy enough for your project right away.

My Honest Experience Ordering from Torretto Tessuti

I’ve ordered from them many times now for my pattern samples, and a few things keep bringing me back:

Fabric samples (10 cm)

You can order small swatches online to check the feel, weight, and true color before committing to yardage. For expensive silks and brocades, I always do this first — it has saved me from more than one costly mistake.

A curated premium selection

Every fabric is hand-picked for quality and design. The flip side: stock is limited, and beautiful deadstock fabrics sell out fast (you’ll see a few “out of stock” notes in my makes below — proof of how quickly they go!).

Fast, careful shipping from France

Orders are dispatched within 24–48 business hours and arrive beautifully packaged. Shipping to Spain has always been quick and problem-free for me.

Honest, detailed descriptions

Composition, weight (gsm), width, and care instructions are clearly listed, so what arrives is what you expected — which is exactly what you need when buying fabric online.

13 AinaSewingPatterns Designs Sewn in Torretto Tessuti Fabrics

The best way to judge a fabric shop is to sew with their fabrics — so here are thirteen of my designs made with Torretto Tessuti textiles, with honest notes on how each fabric behaved on the cutting table and under the needle. (Where a fabric has sold out, I’ve noted it — browse the current collection for similar options.)

1. Gyls Coat — sewn in Belvento brocade

Gyls pleated coat sewing pattern made in Belvento brocade fabric from Torretto Tessuti

Belvento silk cotton viscose brocade fabric swatch – Torretto Tessuti

The structured Gyls Coat pattern meets its match in the luxurious Belvento brocade — a silk, cotton and viscose blend whose body holds every pleat crisply in place. My tip: press with a press cloth on a moderate setting to protect the silk content, and finish the raw edges promptly, as brocades like this love to fray.

2. Emma Jumpsuit — sewn in Lucrezia linen-rayon

Emma modern jumpsuit sewing pattern made in Lucrezia linen rayon fabric from Torretto Tessuti

Lucrezia linen rayon fabric swatch – Torretto Tessuti

The effortlessly chic Emma Jumpsuit in the fluid Lucrezia linen-rayon blend — the rayon softens the linen so it drapes like a dream and wrinkles far less than pure linen. Pre-wash it before cutting, as blends with rayon can relax a little after the first wash.

3. Cherry Dress — sewn in Armeno ramie

Cherry kaftan dress sewing pattern made in Armeno ramie fabric from Torretto Tessuti

Armeno ramie fabric swatch – Torretto Tessuti

The breezy Cherry Dress in natural, textured Armeno ramie. If you’ve never sewn ramie: it behaves much like linen — crisp drape, breathes wonderfully in summer heat — but with a lovely dry, slightly textured hand. It’s become one of my favorite warm-weather fabrics (you’ll spot it twice more below!).

4. Lima Top — sewn in Fiorellino embroidered cotton

Lima peplum blouse sewing pattern for beginners made in Fiorellino embroidered cotton from Torretto Tessuti

Fiorellino embroidered cotton fabric swatch – Torretto Tessuti

The sweet, beginner-friendly Lima Top in delicate Fiorellino embroidered cotton — the floral embroidery does all the decorative work, so a simple pattern is the perfect canvas. Easy to cut, easy to sew: a great pairing for newer sewists who want a special-looking result.

5. Aude Pants — sewn in Tens lyocell denim

Aude flared pants sewing pattern made in Tens lyocell denim fabric from Torretto Tessuti

Tens lyocell graphite denim fabric swatch – Torretto Tessuti

The relaxed, flared Aude Pants in Tens lyocell denim — much softer and more fluid than classic cotton denim, with a cool graphite tone. If you find regular denim too stiff for flowy trouser styles, a lyocell denim like this is the answer. (This colorway has sold out — check the current denim selection for similar options.)

6. Bella Dress — sewn in Orfeo linen-viscose

Bella cap sleeve dress sewing pattern made in Orfeo linen viscose fabric from Torretto Tessuti

Orfeo linen viscose fabric swatch – Torretto Tessuti

The elegant Bella Dress in the refined Orfeo linen-viscose blend — softness and structure in perfect balance, with enough body for the cap sleeves to hold their shape. (Sold out — Lucrezia, above, has a very similar hand.)

7. Audrey Pants — sewn in Julio viscose crepe

Audrey pleated pants sewing pattern made in Julio viscose crepe fabric from Torretto Tessuti

Julio viscose crepe fabric swatch – Torretto Tessuti

The tailored Audrey Pants in fluid Julio viscose crepe — the sandy tone and soft texture give these trousers an effortlessly polished feel. Viscose crepe can shift while cutting, so use plenty of pins or weights and a fresh, fine needle.

8. Balloon Pants — sewn in Gabrio denim

Balloon barrel leg pants sewing pattern made in Gabrio denim fabric from Torretto Tessuti

Gabrio Italian denim fabric texture – Torretto Tessuti

The voluminous, modern Balloon Pants in structured Gabrio denim — its body is exactly what a sculptural barrel-leg silhouette needs to keep its shape. Use a denim needle and lengthen your stitch slightly for the topstitching. (Sold out — any mid-weight Italian denim from their collection works beautifully for this pattern.)

9. Dea Blouse — sewn in Elite polyester crepe

Dea cowl neck blouse sewing pattern made in Elite polyester crepe fabric from Torretto Tessuti

Elite heavy polyester crepe fabric swatch – Torretto Tessuti

The elegant, softly draped Dea Blouse in refined Elite heavy polyester crepe — the weight of this crepe is what makes the cowl neckline fall in those deep, fluid folds. It’s also wonderfully easy-care: no ironing drama, perfect for everyday elegance.

10. Dolce Dress — sewn in Ingri metallic linen

Dolce puff sleeve dress sewing pattern made in Ingri metallic linen fabric from Torretto Tessuti

Ingri anise green metallic linen fabric swatch – Torretto Tessuti

The feminine, radiant Dolce Dress in luminous Ingri metallic linen — the fresh anise green and subtle shimmer give the puff sleeves a light, airy elegance. Metallic linens press best from the wrong side at a lower temperature to protect the shimmer. (Sold out — true deadstock magic: when it’s gone, it’s gone.)

11. Vienne Dress — sewn in Armeno ramie

Vienne midi dress sewing pattern made in Armeno ramie fabric from Torretto Tessuti

Armeno ramie fabric in golden taupe – Torretto Tessuti

The graceful Vienne Dress in earthy Armeno ramie — this warm golden-taupe colorway proves how versatile this fabric is. Light yet substantial, it drapes beautifully and gives the clean lines and midi silhouette a timeless, understated charm.

12. Eclipse Bustier — sewn in Amorevo cotton lace

Eclipse bustier sewing pattern made in Amorevo cotton lace fabric from Torretto Tessuti

Amorevo ivory cotton lace fabric swatch – Torretto Tessuti

The striking, romantic Eclipse Bustier in delicate Amorevo cotton lace — the ivory floral motifs over a dark underlining create that captivating play of light and shadow. My tip for lace bustiers: underline every piece, and let the contrast fabric do half the design work.

13. Naia Dress — sewn in Totano pleated fabric

Naia pleated sheath dress sewing pattern made in Totano pleated fabric from Torretto Tessuti

Totano fuchsia pleated fabric swatch – Torretto Tessuti

The graceful Naia Dress in vibrant Totano pleated fabric — the luminous fuchsia and crinkled texture create constant movement. Pleated fabrics like this are surprisingly forgiving to sew (the texture hides imperfect stitching), but never press the pleats flat: steam from above only.

Torretto Tessuti FAQ

Is Torretto Tessuti a trustworthy shop?

In my experience, yes. I’ve placed multiple orders for my pattern samples, and the fabric always matched the online description and photos. They also have a physical shop near Nice, France, which you can visit in person.

Do they ship outside France?

Yes — they ship internationally to many countries, with exact costs calculated at checkout. My orders to Spain have always arrived quickly and well packaged. Orders over €85 ship free (custom items excluded).

Can I order fabric samples before buying?

Yes, 10 cm samples are available online for most fabrics. I strongly recommend this for silks, brocades, and anything where color accuracy matters — screens never tell the whole truth.

What is Italian deadstock fabric?

Deadstock is surplus fabric from fashion houses and mills that would otherwise go to waste. It’s a more sustainable way to buy luxury textiles — but quantities are limited, so once a fabric sells out it usually doesn’t come back.

Which fabric should I start with?

If you’re newer to sewing, a stable cotton like Fiorellino or a linen blend like Lucrezia is the easiest to handle. Save the viscose crepes, laces, and pleated fabrics for when you’re comfortable with shifty materials — or check the suggested fabrics on each of my sewing patterns.
