___________
This skirt is designed to offer a structured yet elegant silhouette, with clean lines that highlight the diagonal paneling. Choosing the right fabric is essential to preserve the precision of the lines and achieve a polished, architectural finish.
Woven fabrics
Choose medium-weight woven fabrics with enough body to hold the shape while remaining comfortable to wear:
Tweed
Bouclé
Wool suiting
Wool blends
Cotton twill
Gabardine
Medium-weight denim
Jacquard
Textured or lightly structured fabrics
These fabrics enhance the skirt’s architectural lines and ensure crisp, well-defined diagonal seams.
Fabrics to avoid
Very lightweight or fluid fabrics (chiffon, voile, silk satin, rayon challis)
These fabrics will not provide enough structure and may distort the diagonal seams.
Recommended fabric weight
Approx. 220–350 g/m² (6.5–10 oz)
The fabric should have body and structure, not too much fluidity, to preserve the visual impact of the diagonal panels
Lining
Viscose lining
Acetate lining
Lightweight polyester lining
Interfacing
Use a light- to medium-weight fusible interfacing for the waistband to ensure good support and long-lasting shape retention.
Sewing your own garment means you are the creator of your piece — feel free to experiment with fabrics not mentioned here, and the result can be beautiful. Don’t hesitate to explore and try different options.
This list is provided as a guideline — not all suitable fabrics are listed.
