Nuances Fabrics : Premium French Fabrics for Sewing

Looking for quality, original, and on-trend fabrics for your sewing projects? Today I’m introducing you to Nuances Fabrics, a French brand I use regularly and absolutely love. To show you what their fabrics can do, I’m sharing two makes: a striped English embroidery shirt and a kimono jacket in English embroidery and guipure lace. Two pieces I wear with real pleasure!

Nuances Fabrics: 30 Years of Textile Expertise

Nuances Fabrics is not your average fabric shop. It’s a family business born in Lyon, specialising for over 30 years in the creation of high-end fabrics — silk, jacquard, embroideries — for major French and international ready-to-wear brands. Labels like Sézane and Sessun have relied on their expertise. Since 2020, they’ve been selling their fabrics directly to home sewists, via their online shop and their showroom in Bayonne.

The Nuances Fabrics showroom — a treasure trove of premium fabrics

What I love most about them? They design their own collections — two per year (spring-summer and autumn-winter) — with exclusive prints you won’t find anywhere else. The result: you sew clothes that rival the big brands, at a fraction of the price.

✦ Nuances Fabrics by the numbers

  • 30+ years of experience in premium textiles
  • 1,000+ fabric references available
  • 2 original collections per year + regular new arrivals
  • Showroom in Bayonne (69 Bd Alice Lorraine), open Monday to Friday
  • Free delivery in France on orders over €69

Whether you’re looking for silk, English embroidery, jacquard, wool, guipure lace, cotton, or linen, their catalogue has something to make you dream. And the quality truly delivers — it’s the same standard as what’s sold to the big brands, now accessible to home sewists.

My Makes with Nuances Fabrics

I recently tested two of their fabrics, and I wanted to share them with you in detail. Here are the pieces I made, the patterns I used, and my thoughts on each fabric.

1. The Collared Shirt in Striped English Embroidery – Luce Fabric

For this shirt, I used the Women’s Collared Shirt Sewing Pattern – AinaSewingPatterns, paired with the Luce fabric from Nuances Fabrics.

🧵 Luce Fabric — Striped Sky Blue & White English Embroidery Cotton

This fabric combines the elegance of English embroidery with the finesse of a yarn-dyed striped cotton, in a delicate play of sky blue and white. It’s remarkably light and soft, with a subtle embroidered pattern that gives the finished piece a beautifully polished look.

  • Composition: 100% cotton
  • Width: 145 cm (57″)
  • Weight: 200 g/linear metre
  • Care: Gentle machine wash at 30°C

My thoughts on Luce: An instant favourite! The sky blue and white stripe is fresh and summery, and the English embroidery gives it a romantic, refined character. The fabric cuts and sews beautifully. The shirt is light to wear — perfect for warm days. The result looks genuinely high-quality, nothing like a cheap fabric.

2. The Kimono Jacket in English Embroidery and Guipure Lace – Jess Fabric

For this jacket, I used the Women’s Kimono Jacket Sewing Pattern – AinaSewingPatterns, and the Jess fabric from Nuances Fabrics.

Jess Fabric — Black English Embroidery Cotton with Guipure Lace

Jess embodies the perfect balance between tradition and modernity. Built on a black cotton base, this English embroidery stands out with applied guipure lace and subtle scattered sequins that give it a refined, understated shimmer. The texture is dense and the finish is beautifully crafted.

  • Composition: 98% cotton, 2% sequins
  • Width: 145 cm (57″)
  • Weight: 280 g/linear metre
  • Care: Gentle machine wash at 30°C

My thoughts on Jess: This fabric is a real showstopper. The black is timeless, the guipure lace brings a very dressed-up quality, and the tiny sequins make an impact without being over the top. The kimono jacket looks spectacular in this fabric — you could wear it with jeans or with an evening outfit. A versatile, luxurious fabric.
