How to achieve a perfect corner
Sharp, perfectly pointed corners are one of those small details that instantly elevate a garment. This clever technique uses a single thread to pull the corner into shape from the inside — giving you a crisp, precise point with no bulk and no fussing with a seam ripper.
Step-by-step instructions
-
Sew to the corner and stop
Sew along the seam and stop precisely at the corner point with the needle down. Taking your time here and stopping at exactly the right spot is what makes the rest of the technique work cleanly.
-
Slide a thread through and stitch once
Slide a single length of thread between the two layers of fabric, positioning it at the needle. Take one stitch so the thread is caught by the machine stitch at the exact corner point.
-
Pull the thread inside and continue sewing
Pull both ends of the thread so they sit inside the seam allowance, out of the way. Continue sewing along the next edge of the seam as normal.
